Uma Naidoo, MD is a nutritional psychiatrist and the Director of Nutritional & Lifestyle Psychiatry at Massachusetts General Hospital and the author of the book This Is Your Brain on Food: An Indispensable Guide to the Surprising Foods that Fight Depression, Anxiety, PTSD, OCD, ADHD, and More.  She is interested in how the we food eat contributes to our mental health and how a sound diet can help treat and prevent a wide range of psychological and cognitive health issues.

In a recent article on CNBC, Dr. Naidoo discusses the importance of B vitamins for brain health and research suggesting that deficiencies of this vitamin may increase vulnerability to depression and dementia.  

In another article on CNBC, she discusses the benefits of eating blueberries and other flavonoid-rich foods. This recommendation is based on research from Deborah Blacker, MD, ScD indicating that individuals who eat a diet high in colorful, flavonoid-containing foods appear to be at decreased risk for cognitive decline as they age.
