In the words of retired Brigadier General Jack Hammond, executive director of Home Base:
Each Veterans Day, we lay aside our personal concerns to pay tribute to the Americans who have selflessly placed themselves in harm’s way to safeguard our people, values, and freedoms. Since 1776, millions of brave men and women have answered the call to serve, deploying to the darkest corners of the world, shouldering the heaviest burdens, and leaving behind loved ones for months or years on end. War is hell, but it has a unique way of rendering our differences insignificant. In war, we are simply American.
Join Home Base and WCVB this Wednesday, November 11th for the “Helping Veterans Heal” day-long Televent, raising awareness and funds to support Home Base’s clinical programs for the treatment of the invisible wounds for Veterans, Service Members, Military Families and Families of the Fallen.
The Televent will begin at 6am during the EyeOpener newscast until 8pm, with live cut-ins throughout the day. Hear from Military Families about the life-changing care and support they received at Home Base and learn more about the invisible wounds affecting our nation’s Veterans, Service Members and their families. This program is supported by a live phone bank, online donations and text-to-give, in an effort to raise critical funds for Home Base. Viewers will be encouraged to visit HOMEBASE.ORG/TELEVENT to donate.
