The stakes are high with this presidential election, and this is fueling anxiety on both sides. This is something our kids are also feeling.

Election Day is only a few days away.  In this interview with Boston 25 News, Psychologist Ellen Braaten, PhD, Director of theLearning and Emotional Assessment Program (LEAP) at Mass General Hospital, discusses how to support kids who may be struggling with anxiety related to the upcoming election.

“This sort of issue is a perfect storm for anxiety because anxiety thrives when we don’t know what the outcome is, which we really don’t know, we’re told it’s 50-50, anything could happen, and also when the stakes are really high,” notes Dr. Braaten.

Ellen Braaten, PhD is the Director of the Learning and Emotional Assessment Program (LEAP) at Mass General Hospital and the Track Director of the Child Psychology Training Program at MGH/Harvard Medical School. She is an Associate Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School.  She is widely recognized as an expert in the field of pediatric neuropsychological and psychological assessment, particularly in the areas of assessing learning disabilities and attentional disorders.
